Help Katharine resident Lori Martin get VAD in the NT

"They need to start the process now, so it’s not too late for me."

Lori Martin, who lives in Katherine, has a progressive and incurable lung disease. When the time comes that her COPD is unbearable, she wants the option of VAD.

It's only fair that Territorians like Lori have the same rights as other Australians. Last year an expert panel recommended the NT draft a VAD law - so why are our politicians dragging their heels?

Send an email to the NT Chief Minister and your local politician. It only takes 1 minute and will make VAD an issue they can no longer ignore.

Ask NT politicians to legalise voluntary assisted dying

The NT was the first in the country to have a law for voluntary euthanasia in 1995. But now it's the only place in Australia without one. This is unfair and cruel.

The government has said it will introduce a VAD bill by mid 2026 - and we want to hold them to this promise.

After all, dying people don't have time to wait.

Will you email your local politician to ask them to hold the government to its promise to introduce VAD legislation by mid 2026?

The Chief Minister will also receive a copy of your email.

Show your representatives that this matters to you, and show the NT government that you haven't forgotten their commitment. We are waiting, and we are watching.

Top tips

  • Keep your message short and polite
  • Include your NT postcode (it's important you tell them you're a Territorian)
  • Share your story of why VAD matters to you
  • Ask for a reply (they should respond to you, after all they represent you).

Example email if you don't know what to write

The NT has fallen behind the rest of the country on voluntary assisted dying (VAD). That's not good enough.

Territorians want the right to die without suffering, like other Australians.

And we have waited long enough. Every day of delay is another day of suffering for a dying Territorian.

Please represent my views and hold the government to its commitment to introduce VAD legislation in the NT by mid 2026 - no more excuses, no more delays!
